Europe’s food industry saw a rise of 40.00% in deal activity during January 2021

Europe’s food industry saw a rise of 40.00% in deal activity during January 2021, when compared with the last 12-month average, led by Barilla Holding’s $48.73m acquisition of Pasta Evangelists, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

 

A total of 28 food industry deals worth $106.57m were announced for the region in January 2021, against the 12-month average of 20 deals.

Of all the deal types, M&A saw most activity in January 2021 with 14 transactions, representing a 50% share for the region.

In second place was venture financing with eight deals, followed by private equity deals with six transactions, respectively capturing a 28.6% and 21.4% share of the overall deal activity for the month.

In terms of value of deals, venture financing was the leading category in Europe’s food industry with $57.84m, followed by M&A deals totalled $48.73m.

The top five food deals accounted for 99.8% of the overall value during January 2021.

The combined value of the top five food deals stood at $106.36m, against the overall value of $106.57m recorded for the month.
