Asia-Pacific’s food industry saw a rise of 20.00% in deal activity during March 2021

Asia-Pacific’s food industry saw a rise of 20.00% in deal activity during March 2021, when compared with the last 12-month average, led by CMB International Securities and Tiantu Investments’ $300m acquisition of Guoquan Shihui, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

 

A total of 30 food industry deals worth $670.86m were announced for the region in March 2021, against the 12-month average of 25 deals.

Of all the deal types, venture financing saw most activity in March 2021 with 20 transactions, representing a 66.7% share for the region.

In second place was M&A with nine deals, followed by private equity deals with one transactions, respectively capturing a 30% and 3.3% share of the overall deal activity for the month.

In terms of value of deals, venture financing was the leading category in Asia-Pacific’s food industry with $587.57m, while M&A and private equity deals totalled $83.29m and $0m, respectively.

The top five food deals accounted for 92.3% of the overall value during March 2021.

The combined value of the top five food deals stood at $618.97m, against the overall value of $670.86m recorded for the month.

4) The $59m acquisition of Opotiki Packing and Coolstorage by Seeka

5) Chengdu Boyuan Investment Management and Fortune Caizhi’s venture financing of Hangzhou Hengmei Food Technology for $15.3m.
