Asia-Pacific’s food industry saw a drop of 15.38% in deal activity during April 2021, when compared with the last 12-month average, led by 3W Fund Management, APlus Partners Management, Aspex Management, Capital Today, CMC Capital Group, Coatue Management, Cygnus Equity, DST Global, General Atlantic, Hony Capital, MassAve Global, Ocean Link, Sequoia Capital and Tiger Global Management’s $700m acquisition of Dingdong Maicai, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

 

A total of 22 food industry deals worth $797.8m were announced for the region in April 2021, against the 12-month average of 26 deals.

Of all the deal types, venture financing saw most activity in April 2021 with 17 transactions, representing a 77.3% share for the region.

In second place was M&A with three deals, followed by private equity deals with two transactions, respectively capturing a 13.6% and 9.1% share of the overall deal activity for the month.

In terms of value of deals, venture financing was the leading category in Asia-Pacific’s food industry with $737.17m, while M&A and private equity deals totalled $53.81m and $6.8m, respectively.

The combined value of the top five food deals stood at $784.61m, against the overall value of $797.8m recorded for the month.
