Malvern has announced it will be hosting a webinar to discuss the rheological requirements of paintings and coatings, as well as how they can be measured using a rotational rheometer.
Like many commercial products, paints and coatings must be optimised for end use performance, which includes leveling behavior, pigment dispersability, sag resistance, applicator loading, and film thickness, all of which depend on a coatings rheological behavior.
Such processes can have a range of shear stresses, shear rates, and timescales associated and, since many coatings are non-Newtonian and viscoelastic, they can show different rheological behavior under these varying conditions.
As a consequence, it is important to measure the rheological properties under conditions relevant for the process or application, which in most cases can be correlated with end-use performance.
Speaking at the webinar is Malvern’s Americas technical specialist for rheology. He graduated in chemistry from the University of Plymouth and also is a chartered chemist and member of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Phil previously worked at Bohlin assisting and has been teaching people rheology since 1998. He has a wealth of experience for the practical application of rheology and helping customers solve common rheological problems.
Anybody working with paints and coatings who would like to understand more about the rheolgical requirements for such products and how they can be measured using a rotational rheometer is welcome to attend.
