LECTOR®65x is the name of the new product family of image-based code readers offered by SICK as a perfect performance package for demanding code-reading tasks.
Changing object heights and reading distances, large fields of view, randomly positioned 1D codes and 2D codes and high conveyor speeds – in applications with such requirements, the LECTOR®65x scores with features such as a dynamic focus, ‘wide angle’ fields of view, a high camera resolution, as well as quick recording and decoding of serial images. In addition, it features numerous fieldbus options and comprehensive analysis functions.
The LECTOR®65x code reader is available in two focus variants. The ‘Flex’ variant with individually selectable illumination and lenses provides a technically and economically efficient solution with many degrees of freedom in applications. In its ‘Dynamic Focus’ variant, the LECTOR®65x is the innovation on the market of image-based code readers. Within fractions of seconds, it optimally adapts the focus position to the respective reading distances and object heights. As a result, the code reader always obtains a sharp image of the code thanks to a consistently optimal focus position.
Both the ‘Flex’ and the ‘Dynamic Focus’ variant of the LECTOR®65x feature integrated image capture units with resolutions of two megapixels or four megapixels; the latter permit the reliable identification of a common 1D code with a line width of 0.35mm in a reading field of almost 500mm x 500mm.
Regardless of whether it is a barcode, Data Matrix code, MaxiCode or QR code, intellligent decoding algorithms ensure that even low-contrast codes or partially damaged codes are reliably read and processed. The set-up of flexible and modular reading gates is further improved by the ‘LECTOR®654 Dynamic Focus for Systems’ variant. Several code readers are connected by only one cable per device. The customer can expand its system camera by camera, thus achieving an optimal adaptation to the conveyor belt width and the corresponding field of view.
Easy to operate right from the start
Easy integration with no significant expenditure on training is a matter of course for the LECTOR®65x code reader. Serial interfaces, I/Os, USB, CAN and ethernet-based fieldbuses such as TCP/IP and Ethernet/IP, including the function blocks, are already integrated in the code readers.
Other fieldbuses, e.g., Profibus and Profinet are available as connection modules. Function buttons and auto setup enable a quick installation. An integrated aiming laser facilitates the alignment. Optical and acoustic feedback signals support the user during the commissioning and throughout the operation. Thus, images and reading data can be collected, evaluated and used to create statistics and derive trends.
Designed for logistics automation and factory automation
Typical fields of application for the LECTOR®65x code readers are in automated sorting processes in intralogistics. However, manual handling and sorting processes can also be partially automated thanks to the LECTOR®65x. In factory automation, the code readers live up to their potential, e.g., in the identification of tires or in ‘end-of-line’ areas of packaging stations.
With the image-based code readers of the LECTOR®65x product family, SICK completes its portfolio of ‘IDpro’ identification solutions and offers a full product range including laser scanners, line scan cameras, Data Matrix code readers and RFID systems.
