New inspection system for small packages from S+S Separation and Sorting Technology
S+S Separation and Sorting Technology GmbH of Schönberg, Bavaria is launching a compact version of the RAYCON X-ray scanner first introduced at Interpack earlier this year. The conveyor belt of the RAYCON XS is 200mm wide and suitable for products with a maximum width of 165mm and maximum height of 105mm. The entire installation is a mere 1300mm long excluding the reject system. Integrating the unit in a packing line is simple and problem-free.
RAYCON XS offers a cost-effective product inspection solution for examining small packages such as butter, cheese, ready-made soups, instant powder mixes and packed meat and sausage products, even those in aluminium foil or metallised film packaging. The RAYCON XS can achieve throughputs of up to 400 units per minute.
Just like its bigger brothers RAYCON S and RAYCON M, the XS system uses highly developed X-ray technology with advanced image processing software to provide outstanding contaminant detection, as well as identifying missing, underweight or broken product. S+S has combined this sophisticated technology with their well-proven modular design concept for conveyor belts to provide flexible solutions precisely tailored to the needs of different products and production environments. RAYCON systems detect metallic contaminants and foreign bodies made of glass, ceramic, stone, rubber, bone or PVC. A further advantage is that product effects caused by moisture or salts present no problem for X-ray technology.
S+S currently has 3 models available: RAYCON XS with a maximum inspection width of 165mm, RAYCON S with a maximum of 240mm and RAYCON M with a maximum of 380mm. S+S will continue to expand the range of X-ray products. The launch of models for inspecting larger pack sizes as well as glass containers and bottles, bulk materials and paste products in pipeline systems is planned for the near future.
