Safe, ultra-hygienic logistics solutions for the food industry were centre stage in Interroll’s booth at the International Production and Processing Expo (IPPE), which was held 29-31 January 2013 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA (US). Visitors to Interroll’s booth were among 25,000 IPPE guests representing the poultry, meat and feed industries and helped make the expo one of the largest and most successful US food industry events.
Gathering plenty of buzz at IPPE was Interroll’s new Synchronous Drum Motor, designed specifically for the food processing sector. The new, ultra-hygienic motor provides one of the most powerful and energy-efficient conveyor belt drives ever developed. Its combination of drum motor benefits with the superior efficiency of a permanent magnet synchronous motor yields an impressive result: an extremely compact, high torque and dynamic drive boasting outstanding total energy efficiency of 82% (motor, 89%; gear transmission, 92%-95%) running at a maximum shell temperature of only 113°F.
The energy efficiency of the Synchronous Drum Motor is equalled by its technical performance. Whether used as a sensorless drive or a closed loop servo drive with feedback system, Interroll’s Synchronous Drum Motor offers outstanding performance with high acceleration and high torque across virtually the entire speed range.
Ultra-hygienic design in accordance with EHEDG
Interroll takes food hygiene seriously, as proven by the Synchronous Drum Motor – designed by Interroll’s own research and development department according to European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group (EHEDG) standards. Using only first-class materials approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and European Commission (EC) Regulation No. 1935/2004, the Interroll Synchronous Drum Motor features standard IP66 and IP69K sealing systems, making it the ideal solution for wet and high-pressure wash down applications.
The Interroll Drum Motor features optimum cleanability, providing for the lowest possible levels of Salmonella, Listeria, Escherichia coli (E. coli) and other harmful microorganisms in the food production and processing environment. Global water, hygiene and energy technologies provider Ecolab has certified a five-year minimum lifetime of the Interroll Drum Motor materials, when exposed to typical cleaning and sanitation procedures using the Topax range of products.
Growth is proof of the power Interroll brings to logistics
In the highly promising field of drive solutions for the food processing industry, Interroll has gained a leading market position worldwide. Other indicators include the group’s rising presence in the US, including the new Interroll Center of Excellence set to open this year in Atlanta, GA. The new centre is Interroll’s second regional centre of excellence in the US, complementing the product and service offering of the group’s other operations in the US, Canada and South America.
Interroll’s encouraging performance is underpinned by all product groups. The company recorded strong growth in 2012, with net sales rising by 15.6% in local currency and by 13% in consolidated currency, for total net sales of 307.2m in 2012 (compared to CHF272.9m in 2011). In consolidated currency, order intake grew by 4.8% to CHF302.6m (compared to CHF288.7m in 2011). Earnings before interest and taxes are expected to be up by 20% to 25%, while net profit is likely to grow by approximately 5% to 10%. Moreover, Interroll generated strong operating cash flow in fiscal year 2012.
