The 2005 Frost & Sullivan Technology Innovation Award was presented on Dec. 12 in London to Germany- based FLAVEX Naturextrakte GmbH for its pioneering supercritical CO2-extraction technology which has been used in the development of novel Omega-3 PUFA oils.
Founded in 1986, the company operations have a capacity of several ton botanical materials a day. The production facilities are equipped with modern measurement and control systems that are suitable for solving critical separation problems and providing reproducible results.
The formula for success has been based on a number of factors including technological and botanical competence, a good relationship with international customers as well as with selected raw material suppliers, an excellent infra structure and continuous efforts in research and development.
Using a gentle, clean and eco-friendly method, FLAVEX extracts bio-active substances, valuable flavours and fragrances from herbal raw materials The high-tech procedure uses carbon dioxide, as a solvent for lipophilic plant ingredients. The process works under exclusion of oxygen and without the stress of high temperatures, leaves no residues in the products and creates no harmful emissions or waste streams. The FLAVEX process is therefore certified for organic production according to the EEC guideline as well as to the US-NOP standard.
All of FLAVEX’s products are exclusively developed, produced and certified at the company’s German site and are supplied worldwide to industrial customers. Well qualified employees certify every production batch by using modern analytical procedures.
Furthermore, a detailed, complete and traceable chain of documentation guarantees the authenticity, purity and high quality of FLAVEX products. All supercritical extracts, such as those from ginger or vanilla, natural rosemary antioxidants or the new vegetarian omega-3 oils from chia and kiwi seeds have a unique profile. They are free of solvent residues, sterile and need no preservation.
FLAVEX extracts therefore meet all requirements of purity and naturalness. They mark the quality standard in many applications.
Award selection was done by a team of Frost & Sullivan analysts according to defined methodology. Among the criteria considered were factors such as market acceptance, technology, R&D expenditures, process and product innovation. In bestowing the award on FLAVEX, Frost & Sullivan recognises the company for its demonstrated technological leadership within the industry.
