Mindful consumption driven by self-reliant customers

Today’s well-informed and empowered consumers display a high level of focus on their wellbeing, resulting in a prominent shift in their purchasing behaviour as consumers become more selective in the products they buy.

According to GlobalData’s 2017 Q1 global consumer survey, over half (54%) of shoppers say they pay high or very high attention to the ingredients used in the food and drink products they consume. A notably high proportion of consumers say they are highly attentive to ingredients in beauty and grooming products (42%) and household and laundry products (37%).

A rising emphasis on self-reliance has driven consumers to be more accountable for their product choices. This growing awareness and scrutiny of product attributes has put greater pressure on brands across FMCG to be more transparent about a product’s ingredients and provenance via clear and simple communication.
