SFC Group feeds environment and fans of Formula E

Event catering company SFC Group planted two trees for every outlet it had at the recent Formula E event in London, UK, as part of a commitment to feed the environment.

A number of would-be gardeners joined SFC Group chairman Stephen Freeman in planting trees in Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park to mark the group’s support for Formula E.

Formula E is FIA-supported motor-racing championship featuring only electric-powered cars.

Among the Formula E drivers who lent their support for the initiative include Nico Prost of Renault e.Dams, Daniel Abt of AbtSchaeffler Audi Sport and Dragon Racing’s Jerome D’Ambrosio.

Freeman said: "The Formula E ethos of sustainability and innovation is one that resonates with us all. We are delighted to have planted these trees to celebrate our attendance at the season finale of the Formula E Championships and to help in some small way to redress our carbon footprint.

"As the UK’s largest public event catering and bar operator, we have a presence at most of the country’s major gatherings and aim to lead by example in the sector. Our work today is a small step but it’s heading in the right direction. We already recycle thousands of litres of cooking oil used during the course of the year and are considering other ways we can become more sustainable in the future."

Tower Hamlets councillor and cabinet member for environment Ayas Miah said: "London has a wonderfully diverse range of green spaces, from this magical park, which, until 1966, was a cemetery, through to Battersea Park, the hosts of the Formula E racing this weekend and one of the largest green spaces in London. Anything we can do as a community to help improve our environment and deliver sustainability should be applauded and we thank SFC Group for their generosity today."

SFC Group teamed up with not-for-profit voluntary entity E Forest, in order to address climate change by planting trees in publicly accessible land and helps bring the tree planting project to fruition.

SFC Group’s 40 outlets catered for Formula E race fans in Battersea Park, providing more than 50,000 meals ranging from gourmet burgers, traditional fish and chips to a variety of street food such as authentic Thai, and artisan stone-baked pizza.
