M&As this week: JBS USA, Maple Leaf Foods, Home Market Foods

US-based animal protein processor JBS USA is set to acquire Plumrose USA, a bacon, ham and deli meat business owned by Danish Crown.

A definitive share purchase agreement has been signed with Danish Crown.

Expected to be closed in Q2 this year, the $230m acquisition will involve five prepared foods facilities and two distribution centres of the target company.

Maple Leaf Foods has acquired refrigerated plant-based protein foods maker Lightlife Foods for C$140m ($104.2m)

Lightlife’s existing management is retained following the acquisition.

The acquirer company is a consumer protein company based in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

Home Market Foods, a meat-based foods manufacturer, has acquired chocolate snack manufacturer, Perfect Fuel.

The target company produces dark chocolate energy bites.

The acquisition represents Home Market Foods’ foray into functional foods market.
