M&As this week: Smithfield Foods, Cargill, Balchem Corporation

Smithfield Foods has acquired Pini Group's packaged meats companies in Poland, following the receipt of approvals from the Polish authority and the completion of due diligence.

Smithfield Poland subsidiary Animex Foods will manage the acquired companies.

Smithfield Poland will gain control over the Pini Polska meat processing and packaging plant, the Hamburger Pini case-ready meat facility, and the under-development Royal Chicken investment project, as a result of the acquisition.

Cargill has acquired chicken and processed meat producing company Pollos El Bucanero, which is involved in the protein business for more than three decades.

The target company will operate as a part of Cargill’s subsidiary, Cargill Protein Latin America, following the acquisition.

The acquisition helps Cargill enter the Columbian protein business market. The company already has bases in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.

Microencapsulated ingredient solutions provider Balchem Corporation has completed the acquisition of Innovative Food Processors, a manufacturer of agglomerated and microencapsulated food and nutrition ingredients.

Both the companies involved in the transaction are based in the US.

The target company will become a part of the acquirer company’s human nutrition and health business segment, following the transaction.
