Food industry M&A deals total $893.4m globally in October 2021

Total food industry M&A deals worth $893.4m were announced globally in October 2021, led by Inner Mongolia Yili Industrial Group’s $687.02m acquisition of Ausnutria Dairy, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked an increase of 34% over the previous month of $666.86m and a drop of 60.3% when compared with the last 12-month average, which stood at $2.25bn.

Comparing M&A deals value in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $785.13m. At the country level, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China topped the list in terms of deal value at $687.02m.

In terms of volumes, North America emerged as the top region for food industry M&A deals globally, followed by Asia-Pacific and then Europe.

The top country in terms of M&A deals activity in October 2021 was the US with nine deals, followed by the Japan with five and Italy with three.

In 2021, as of October, food M&A deals worth $19.66bn were announced globally, marking an increase of 27.6% year on year.
