Food industry M&A deals total $5.2bn globally in August 2021

Total food industry M&A deals worth $5.2bn were announced globally in August 2021, led by Cargill and Continental Grain’s $4.53bn acquisition of Sanderson Farms, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked an increase of 1225.7% over the previous month of $393m and a rise of 212% when compared with the last 12-month average, which stood at $1.67bn.

Comparing M&A deals value in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $4.65bn. At the country level, the US topped the list in terms of deal value at $4.53bn.

In terms of volumes, North America emerged as the top region for food industry M&A deals globally, followed by Europe and then Asia-Pacific.

The top country in terms of M&A deals activity in August 2021 was the US with seven deals, followed by the UK with three and Canada with three.

In 2021, as of August, food M&A deals worth $15.23bn were announced globally, marking an increase of 41.8% year on year.

The top five M&A deals accounted for 97.7% of the overall value during August 2021.

The combined value of the top five food M&A deals stood at $5.08bn, against the overall value of $5.2bn recorded for the month.
