JUST partners with Emsland to increase protein processing capacity

American plant-based food company JUST has enhanced its protein processing capacity by partnering with Emsland Group, a global raw material manufacturer.

The company expects that the new partnership will help the company to cope with the increasing global demand for its plant-based product, which is marketed as JUST Egg in the US.

JUST co-founder and CEO Josh Tetrick said: “Our partnership with Emsland Group is not only an innovative and creative development in the world of protein processing but it will ultimately help us make JUST Egg more accessible and affordable to customers and consumers around the globe.

“We’re excited to learn from their more than 90 years of experience and leadership in the food industry, guided by the philosophy ‘using nature to create’.”

Based in Emlichheim, Germany, Emsland Group is engaged in the production of pea and potato products, which are essential elements for a wide range of food applications since 1928.

Partnership with JUST is claimed to be first for the Emsland Group under which it will process mung bean protein, a key ingredient in JUST Egg.

The new alliance between Just and Emsland is expected to improve access for mung bean protein, as well as create a new revenue stream from the sale of the legume’s high starch content.

In March, JUST announced new partnerships to manufacture and distribute its JUST Egg product across North America, Latin America, Europe and East Asian markets.

JUST has partnered with the bakery firm Grupo Bimbo, as well as South Korean food company SPC Samlip and South-East Asia’s largest food company Betagro Group.
