Biogas generated during anaerobic treatment of wastewater and organic solid waste brings an enormous green energy potential for the food and beverage production facilities. With up to 85% of methane content in the biogas stream, its use not only leads to significant savings but also a noticeable carbon footprint reduction of the entire production plants.
Thanks to advanced GWE biogas processing technologies, this carbon-neutral energy source can be utilised to feed steam and water boilers, combined heat and power (CHP) units and biogas absorption units.
CALORIXTM Direct-fired Wastewater Heater
For use without treatment, GWE has developed the CALORIXTM Direct-fired Wastewater Heater, allowing customers to increase the wastewater temperature without expensive heat exchangers and boilers.
Its robust design and compact footprint make it an excellent choice for all the users looking for decreasing operational costs of their wastewater treatment systems.
SULFURIXTM Biogas desulphurisation
Removal of the hydrogen sulphide (H2S) is a necessary step whenever biogas is used to fuel electricity and heat generators, or modern steam boilers. There are two primary reasons for this: to reduce sulphur dioxide (SO2) emissions and comply with local air quality regulations, and to ensure the optimal operation of the entire biogas system by preventing damaging corrosion.
For over 15 years, GWE’s desulphurisation technologies have been some of the most effective systems on the market for treating biogas with 0.5 to 5% H2S concentrations.
The first of the two desulphurisation systems from GWE is SULFURIXTM Wet Biogas Scrubber, where desulphurisation occurs at a constant rate, for all flows and H2S concentrations.
With natural H2S dissolution in water, the gas is consistently removed throughout the scrubber’s height and width. The single-stage unit can remove up to 95% of hydrogen sulphide (H2S concentrations above 1%).
Biological oxidation processes that have been put to work in BIO-SULFURIXTM Biological Biogas Scrubber allows for chemical-free removal of the hydrogen sulphide to very low concentrations. With the H2S concentrations in the biogas leaving BIO-SULFURIXTM at the level of 100 ppm, obtaining biogas suitable to use in gensets and boilers.
Both SULFURIX™ and BIO-SULFURIX™ can be installed in new facilities or incorporated into existing anaerobic digestion installations. Depending on the client’s needs, a biogas blower can be added to bring the biogas pressure up for cases where it must be transported some distance to the utilisation system.
GWE’s SULFURIX™ scrubbers are made entirely out of corrosion-proof materials: anti-static HDPE and polyester.
Biogas burners and multi-fuel burners
Based on more than 30 years of practical experience with biogas use as fuel, GWE can offer burners and boiler modifications to utilise biogas in single and multiple fuel arrangements.
With two unique solutions available, GWE’s burner conversion allows for the entire volume of available biogas to be used at all times.
Design, supply, and commissioning of the new biogas burner can be done:
- In steam boilers
- Water heaters
- Thermal oil boilers and direct-fired dryers
- Also in combination with a wide variety of other fuels like bunker fuel oil, light fuel oil, natural gas, propane, LPG, coal, lignite, and biomasses like rice husk, bagasse, and sawdust.
