DFA restructures dairy ingredients business to form new group

US-based dairy cooperative Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) has restructured its ingredients division to form a new group called DFA Ingredient Solutions.

The business units that have come together include dairy food ingredients, dairy powders, DairiConcepts and Berkshire Dairy.

DFA Ingredient Solutions senior vice-president and chief operating officer Martin Bates said: “Through our division, we are connecting our family farm-owners to consumers around the world through our portfolio of diverse dairy-based ingredients.

“Working as one team allows us to be customer-focused and provide them with a seamless, efficient experience.”

The company anticipates that this business realignment move will benefit food manufacturers and operators. It will offer a larger portfolio of dairy ingredients, including cheese, butter solutions, sweetened condensed milk, nutritional powders, seasoning blends, dairy concentrates and flavours.

It will also offer new dairy taste and flavour solutions to food companies and develop ingredients that are in line with their specifications.

The company said that it will use its team of scientists, risk management, customer service and logistics professionals to provide the right solutions for its customers. It delivers essential ingredients from dairy powders and butter products to cheeses, and works with major food companies to develop new ingredients.

In July, the St Albans Cooperative Creamery’s farm families approved a merger with DFA. This helps give St Albans members a secure future amid changing market dynamics.

In November 2017, Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) officially opened DFA Garden City, a new dairy ingredients plant in south-west Kansas.
