Kepak Group to acquire 2 Sisters Red Meat in UK

Irish food company Kepak Group has entered an agreement to acquire 2 Sisters Red Meat’s UK business and assets from Boparan Holdings for an undisclosed price.

The acquisition of 2 Sisters Red Meat is expected to strengthen Kepak’s key partnerships across its customer supply chain, as well as enable the firm to source raw materials for its meat-based, value-added businesses in the UK in a sustainable manner.

Kepak will assume control of the business with immediate effect under the arrangement.

The business is primarily operated from facilities in McIntosh Donald, Portlethen, Scotland, and Merthyr, Glamorgan, Wales, as well as Bodmin and Victoria in Cornwall, England.

Kepak Group managing director John Horgan said: “Kepak has a clear strategy to grow its meat and food businesses in partnership with key customers and in markets that are complementary to our existing businesses in Ireland and in the UK.

“The acquisition of this red meat business, with its very solid UK retail, foodservice and manufacturing relationships, marks a very significant next step in delivering on our strategy. It is a great fit for Kepak.

“The addition of these facilities to Kepak Group significantly increases the value and scale of our business.

“We are delighted to welcome all our new colleagues that will transfer with the acquisition.”

The 2 Sisters production sites, central support office at Talgarrek House and cold storage facilities in Truro process and market a combined total of roughly 250,000 cattle and more than one million lambs annually.

The company’s cattle and lamb are sourced from more than 13,000 farmers based around the UK, ranging from northern Scotland to Cornwall.
