Givaudan completes acquisition of Brazil’s Centroflora Nutra

Swiss flavours and fragrances manufacturer Givaudan has completed the acquisition of Centroflora Nutra, a nutrition division of Centroflora Group, for an undisclosed price.

Located in Botucatu, Brazil, Centroflora Nutra produces botanical extracts and dehydrated fruits for the food and beverage industry. The company employs a total of 116 people.

It also offers a wide range of plant extracts from various regions worldwide, with a particular focus on those from the biodiverse environment of Brazil.

The Swiss firm first expressed its intent to acquire Centroflora Nutra in September last year.

Givaudan CEO Gilles Andrier said: “Today is an exciting day and we are delighted to welcome Centroflora Nutra’s employees to the Givaudan family and provide our joint customers with an expanded offering of natural solutions.

“Centroflora Nutra’s sourcing and social-environmental responsibility activities will strengthen our naturals sourcing platform, as well as Givaudan’s existing sustainability programme ‘A Sense of Tomorrow’.”

The acquisition is said to be part of Givaudan’s 2020 strategy to strengthen its global offering of natural extracts and further develop its presence in Brazil.

Givaudan flavour division president Louie D´Amico said: “This acquisition is aligned with our ambition to support food and beverage companies in developing great tasting products that align with consumer demands for clean label, organic and natural ingredients.

“Centroflora Nutra´s product portfolio will complement Givaudan’s existing capabilities in natural flavours, kitchen ingredients, integrated solutions and functional ingredients.”

According to Givaudan, Centroflora Nutra´s business would have represented around Sfr17m of increased sales to its 2017 results on a pro forma basis.
