Beyond Meat to expand plant-based burgers across six continents

Beyond Meat, which manufactures plant-based burgers, is planning to expand its product range across six continents later this year.

According to the company, replacing the protein at the centre of the plate with plant-based meat will help Beyond Meat to positively impact human health, the environment, and animal welfare.

In order to launch the Beyond Burger worldwide, the company will be working with global distribution and food service partners.

Beyond Meat founder and CEO Ethan Brown said: “Reflecting rapid demand growth in the United States and sustained interest from international markets, we’ve taken steps to significantly increase our production capacity.

“These additions make it possible for us to support international launches, building upon the successful 2017 introduction of the Beyond Burger in Hong Kong.”

Launched in 2016, the Beyond Burger is claimed to be the only burger in the world that looks, cooks, and tastes like ground beef from cows but is made entirely from plants, without GMOs, soy, or gluten.

The company is reported to have sold more than 13 million protein-packed patties through nearly 15,000 restaurants and grocery stores across the US.

Beyond Meat has partnered with a select group of distributors to enter more than 50 countries including Canada, Australia, Mexico, Chile, Israel, UAE, South Korea, Taiwan, South Africa, Germany and other European countries.

Earlier this year, Beyond Meat revealed that it is planning to build its new research and innovation facility in Los Angeles, US.

The new research facility is expected to reduce production scale-up timelines by half, enabling the company to bring a new product to market every year.
