Morrisons acquires Chippindale Foods in UK

UK-based food retailer Morrisons has acquired Yorkshire’s free range egg supplier Chippindale Foods for an undisclosed price.

With the acquisition, Morrisons intends to work closely with egg farmers and support a sustainable supply chain, as well as focus on the welfare of hens.

The free range eggs from Chippindale will also support food retailer’s commitment to offering eggs from non-caged hens by 2025.

Morrisons Manufacturing director Andrew Thornber said: “The addition of Chippindale Foods to our fresh food manufacturing business will give us the opportunity to build on our deep relationships with British farmers and become even more competitive for our supermarket and wholesale customers.”

Chippindale Foods entered the business in 1930 as a mixed family farm, and since then the company has grown to become a supplier of free-range eggs to retailers and food service outlets across the UK.

As per the terms of the deal, Morrison’s intends to retain Chippindale’s managing director Nick Chippindale, along with 54 employees working at the Flaxby, North Yorkshire site.

By adding Chippindale Foods to its portfolio, Morrisons intends to make even more of its own fresh food and become more competitive for customers on these important everyday products.

Morrisons currently operates 17 manufacturing facilities that produce fresh food and owns 491 stores across the country that sells bakery, seafood, meat, fruits, vegetables, flowers, and chilled processed products.
