Tulip’s sausages and canned products to enter Chinese market

Tulip Food (Tulip), a subsidiary of global meat company Danish Crown, is all set to export its sausages and canned products to China after receiving permission from the Chinese officials.

The Danish food company will be exporting sausages and salami/pepperoni products produced at its Svenstrup factory and canned products from its factory located in Vejle.

Tulip intends to sell its products to the retail trade, online, and to the foodservice sectors in China.

Tulip Food CEO Kasper Lenbroch said: “It clearly marks a breakthrough for Danish food exports.

“China is an extremely interesting market, and we already have agreements in place with partners wanting to sell our products. Therefore, I expect the first container to be shipped off within the next few weeks.”

The deal is reported to be in line with Tulip’s and the Danish Crown Group’s strategy to expand its presence in the Asian market.

Lenbroch further added: “For sausages and canned products alone, we see potential exports from Denmark of DKK250m ($41m) a year.

It’ll take a few years to build to this level, but Danish pork already enjoys a strong position in China, so we’re hardly starting from scratch.”

Tulip’s parent company noted that its own factory near Shanghai will be completed by next year.
