Burts acquires Savoury & Sweet in UK

UK’s Burts Potato Chips (Burts) has acquired Leicester-based manufacturer of popcorn products Savoury & Sweet for an undisclosed price.

Under the deal, Burts will take over Savoury & Sweet offices, production facility, and warehouse located in Leicester and will retain all existing staff members working at the facility in order to meet all current and future orders.

Savoury & Sweet noted that it will continue to operate under its existing brand name, but will be rebranded as Burts Snacks in the near future.

Burts managing director David Nairn said: “The Burts business has grown significantly over the last five years, from £11.4m in 2013 to an anticipated £37m (post-acquisition) for 2017.

“While impressive, our ambition is to drive the business to over £100m in the next five years to become the UK’s biggest player within premium snacking.

“NPD is high on our agenda and we are looking forward to bringing new and exciting innovation that will challenge the current UK snack market.”

Burts is also planning to expand its ‘Better for You’ business next year under the Burts Snacks banner, and this new initiative is expected to create additional jobs as well as further enhance production capacity of its plant in Leicester.

The British potato chips producer anticipates that the acquisition of Savoury & Sweet’s popcorn and healthy snack operations would create a premium snacking company in the country.
