FDA Proposes Amendment to Animal Food Labels

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is proposing to amend its regulations on the declaration of certified colour additives on the labels for animal food packaging.

The initiative follows a modification to the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act of 1990.

The modification required the listing on food labels of the common or usual names of all colour additives to be certified by the FDA.

The FDA’s animal-food amendment is aimed at making the regulations consistent with those that apply to human food labelling.

The proposed rule also suggests appropriate terminology for the declaration of certification-exempt colour additives on the labels of animal food.
