Premier Foods Chairman to Quit

Premier Foods chairman David Kappler said he is preparing to step down after six years in charge of Britain’s biggest food producer.

Kappler, who has run the Premier board since it floated on the stock market in 2004, is expected to quit this year, according to The Times.

Kappler still sits on the board of Shire, the pharmaceuticals group, where he is the senior independent director, and Intercontinental Hotels.

Analysts have speculated that Kappler’s relationship with Premier CEO Robert Schofield could have been strained under recent trying times for the company.

In the past two weeks Premier witnessed a 14% downturn in market value after disappointing trade.

In 2009 the company was forced to carry out a capital restructuring plan.
