Carlyle to Acquire NBTY for $3.8bn

Private equity firm Carlyle Group has unveiled plans to buy New York-based vitamin maker NBTY for $3.8bn.

The US company said it will pay $55 for each NBTY share.

NBTY’s board has approved the deal and the company has a month to consider proposals from other bidders.

The purchase agreement is the fifth major transaction announced by Carlyle in the past month.

Carlyle Group and a partner firm recently announced they were selling their interests in MultiPlan, a healthcare management company, for $3.1bn.
