FDA Warns Against Handling Frozen Rodents

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned against the use and handling of frozen mice because of a potential risk of salmonella contamination.

The FDA said the frozen rodents, which are used as food for reptiles, must be avoided as individuals with weakened immune systems are at risk of salmonellosis.

Biggers and Callaham, the producer of the products, announced a recall, which was distributed in all states except Hawaii.

Earlier this month, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 34 human illnesses in 17 states were associated with handling frozen rodents sourced from Biggers and Callaham.
