United Pulse Trading unveils food processing facility in US

US-based pulses and special crops supplier United Pulse Trading has opened a $30m food processing facility in Minot, North Dakota, a move which is expected to create 45 jobs.

The facility is located in Minot’s agriculture complex and will process lentils, chickpeas, dry beans and other pulse crops.

In addition to traditional processing, the facility will also produce flours, proteins, fibres and other food ingredients for export worldwide.

The Minot plant is expected to process over 75,000t of pulse crops per annum, according to the company.

The plant will market the company’s food products through its parent company Alliance Grain Traders, which sells pulse crops such as peas, beans and lentils in over 100 countries.

United Pulse noted that Minot is an ideal location to source pulse crops and serves as a major transportation base for agriculture commodities shipped worldwide.

North Dakota Governor Jack Dalrymple said that the new processing plant is good news for North Dakota farmers and the entire state.

"With the completion of this plant, United Pulse Trading will expand the market opportunities for our farmers and help drive our continued growth in exports by supplying more of our quality food products to consumers around the world," Dalrymple added.

United Pulse Trading operates a processing facility in Williston and a business office in Bismarck; the new facility will bring the company’s total employment in North Dakota to 100 people.

Headquartered in Bismarck, North Dakota, United Pulse Trading is a supplier of pulses and special crops, including red split lentils, football red lentils, whole lentils, and yellow split lentils.
